The City Council of Ancona faced several key challenges in its journey toward digital transformation. On one hand, there was a noticeable disparity in connectivity between urban and rural areas, leaving peripheral and underdeveloped zones without adequate internet access. This digital divide limited opportunities for citizens and hindered the administration’s ability to deliver modern services.
Additionally, the city’s most iconic and frequented public spaces, such as squares and avenues, lacked the connectivity infrastructure needed to support the growing use of mobile devices by residents and tourists. This created a barrier to promoting tourism and improving the visitor experience.
Another significant challenge was the need to modernize municipal offices, especially those located in rural districts. These offices relied on outdated communication systems, making it difficult to provide agile and effective services to citizens.
Solution implemented by Galgus and Netoip
A scalable and intelligent Wi-Fi network to connect everyone
In response to these challenges, Netoip turned to Galgus technology for its proven ability to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performance solutions.
78 Galgus access points (APs) were strategically installed. These APs are equipped with advanced AI-powered software that enables automatic network optimization, even in high-density user environments. Centralized management tools simplified network monitoring and maintenance.
The success of Galgus technology led to the acquisition of 22 additional APs in the summer of 2024, expanding coverage to more areas and strengthening connectivity in key locations. This expansion reflected the commitment of both the City Council and Netoip to the continuous improvement of the project.

The deployment of Galgus APs has had a significant impact across multiple dimensions:
- Improved public access: residents and tourists in Ancona now enjoy free, high-quality Wi-Fi in locations such as Largo 24 Maggio, Piazza Cavour, Piazza Roma, and the bustling Viale della Vittoria. This not only promotes digital inclusion but also enhances the city's appeal as a tourist destination.
- Administrative efficiency: municipal offices in areas like Massignano, Sappanico, Gallignano, and Candia have experienced notable improvements in operational efficiency.
- Optimized performance: thanks to Galgus technology, the system can self-manage to ensure seamless and stable connectivity, even during periods of high demand.
- Cost savings: the strategic collaboration between Netoip and Galgus allowed the City Council of Ancona to reduce operational connectivity costs by 30%, optimizing public resources.
- Scalability ensured: The project's expansion demonstrates the ability of Galgus APs to adapt to new demands without compromising service quality.
