Puerta del Mar Hospital in Cádiz: Location Analytics and automated Wi-Fi network optimization to improve the experience for employees and patients.

High-performance connectivity and location analytics for better patient care

The Puerta del Mar University Hospital in Cádiz needed a Wi-Fi network that could adequately respond to high-demand connection situations. They also highly valued having precise data on the behavior of users and staff to optimize resource usage. Additionally, it was crucial to locate medical equipment in real time for the fastest possible use and to always know where especially vulnerable patients are. This way, medical and administrative professionals could offer an enhanced service, streamlining their work and improving patient care. This project is part of the Wi-Fi network deployment for the offices of the Junta de Andalucía, for which we were selected.

Key devices and technology to achieve the desired results

We deployed a total of 280 Wi-Fi access points with our CHT (Cognitive Hotspot Technology) installed throughout the hospital premises.

With CHT, each access point can analyze its environment and communicate with others, allowing them to automatically make joint decisions to optimize network performance.

We also developed a reverse proxy server to avoid enabling unauthorized ports, thereby enhancing network security.

This project includes our geolocation and presence analytics solution. Through this, managers have precise information about the flow of people in the hospital and occupancy levels. It also allows monitoring to ensure there are no unauthorized people in restricted areas.

Thanks to the Wi-Fi network we have implemented, all staff at Puerta del Mar Hospital enjoy seamless, fast, and secure connectivity.

Even when many simultaneous requests are made, and in complex locations, Galgus technology is capable of responding adequately.

With this, we are achieving improved quality and speed in patient care, which should be the ultimate goal.

Additionally, CHT optimizes investment and operational costs by minimizing the number of required access points and prolonging the lifespan of each.

Very soon, we will have the entire Presence & Location Analytics deployment operational, allowing managers to make informed management decisions based on insights about people flows (occupancy, dwell times, heat maps, etc.). All of these can be segmented by time periods.

It’s also important to highlight that these location and presence data help quickly locate medical equipment and critical patients, which reduces response times in emergency situations.
